Musicians' Health

As musicians, we often expose our bodies to great stress: intense practice sessions, multiple hours of sitting in orchestra rehearsals and lengthy opera performances in the pit, strenuous performances standing as a soloist and in chamber music concerts, and long and stressful trips on tour. Especially instrumentalists such as violinists, but also wind players and pianists complain about blockages and pain in the musculoskeletal system. The reason for these problems are usually an unnatural posture, too much tension in the back and neck area when holding the instrument, an unbalanced sitting position or a general tightness, often in connection with incorrect breathing.

In this situation, we usually turn to physiotherapists and doctors for help - and rightly so, because seeking professional help is always important. But our health as musicians is first and foremost in our own hands. And it is up to us to take care of our body and mind in a way that we prevent these problems from occurring in the first place.

Sports and Music – these two areas go hand in hand. Our body is our most important tool, comparable to the engine of a car. Even an engine has to get serviced and cared for regularly in order to have the machine run smoothly.

There is no doubt that sport has an enormous positive influence on our physique. The movements promote strength, balance and body control. Musculature, which we urgently need to maintain our body and our physical well-being, is built. Poor posture in particular can be quickly remedied by focusing on developing a strong supporting muscle structure.

At the same time, sport helps to build resilience, inner strength and mental balance. On the Internet, you can find countless studies on the positive effect of sport on our psyche from a scientific point of view. In my job as a trainer, I have had the privilege of working with several trauma patients and witnessing the life-changing effects of this sport up close.

Music is a High-Performance Sport.

Our job as musicians is to train our bodies in such a way that we can fully concentrate on the creation and the flow of the music on stage without any physical limitations.

In order to make this possible, we have developed a unique training program especially for musicians in cooperation with several musicians, fitness and mobility coaches, BodyArt instructors and sports scientists.

"Fit Frequency - Perfectly in Tune with your Body and Mind" is a holistic training concept that specializes in strengthening and developing the for musicians most important muscoloskeletal areas. It consists of various fitness exercises to develop strong core muscles, stretching exercises for warm-up and cool-down, as well as exercises to prevent injuries and to deal with occupational pain.

In addition, breathing techniques and possible ways to deal with stress, performance anxiety and fear of failure are addressed, as well as the importance of a healthy diet and supporting the body with suitable supplements.

All these factors together build a solid framework for the musician's health maintenance.
